5Fantastic for Carry On Air Travel and Day Touring  Sep 12, 2009
By Laura J. Fender
I recently purchased this item for a trip to London and for touring 6 other countries while on a cruise. Since I vowed NEVER to check baggage again, I had been searching for a backpack that could be used as a carryon as well as a day touring bag instead of carrying a purse. I had already purchased the largest allowable carryon suitcase and was determined to pack 2 1/2 weeks of clothes into these two items. The first part of my journey consisted of flying on a small jet and then a larger one to London. It met all carry on requirements for both planes, and fit nicely under the seat. In addition, by having the backpack on my back, my hands were free at all times. I loved the storage compartments in the top part of the back. There were individual pockets available for my Ipod Touch, my global cell phone, and my digital camera. Each pocket used velcro to secure the item in place. I had plenty of room for medicines and my carry on liquid quart bag of items as well as electrical cords, converter and the like. In the front zippered part, the pockets were handy for keeping my travel journal, lipstick, combs, tissues, tour tickets, etc. The side pockets held a water bottle on one side and a disposable rain poncho on the other side. I couldn't believe all the room I had in this bag. It was the perfect day touring pack as well. Since the weather was cooler in the mornings, I often needed a light jacket which fit nicely in the pack along with purchased items such as guide books and trinkets. On the one day it rained, not one thing got wet. This is an amazing bag. (And yes, I really did get 2/12 weeks of clothes (including formal wear) into 1 suitcase carryon and this 1 Pacsafe Backpack. It can be done ladies!) OH..I did purchase a small combination lock to add extra security to the top part of the bag. This gave me extra comfort when traveling in large crowds and while leaving my backpack on the secured tour bus and in the hotel room.

1Excellent backpack ruined by cheap zippers  Sep 07, 2010
By Tom Joad
I was looking for a bus-friendly commuting backpack to handle a small (12") laptop, a book or two, and various daily junk including a jacket. Checked this Pacsafe Roamsafe backpack out at the local camping store and found it 20% less at Amazon, decided to go for it. It's amazingly comfortable, lots of space inside, lightweight, and nondescript.

HOWEVER - the whole package is ruined by the MOST AWFUL CHEAP ZIPPERS I've experienced on a backpack--- EVER! A day or two after I bought it, the top one split open quicker than those throw-away bags they wrap bedsheets in for sale. I was shocked - every other part of this bag seems designed for durability and theft resistance - but if the cheap zipper won't even hold then the thief can just reach their hand inside and not bother slashing the bag.

After repairing it and having functioned OK for a few days (the top flap is MISERABLE to close - should have been designed with a stiff material inside), the top zipper lost itself again today and I'm done with this bag, going back to my Eagle Creek one.

If I find one of these in a yard sale for $10 bucks, I'll take it home, stiffen the upper flap with plastic and replace the zippers with wide tooth quality YKK ones, it'll be a marvelous bag. But for $100.00 retail this company should be doing it themselves.

With all the hype that Pacsafe gives about their mesh material, cables through the straps, etc. - it's just ridiculous they don't seem to have given a thought to using a functional zipper. I'm really disappointed, hope they make another one that fixes the two problems and I'll buy it in a heartbeat.

4Very safe. Great to travel with  May 20, 2010
By M. Kern
I got this bag for my daughter to take to Europe on a 2 week vacation. She went to Prague for 1 week were she actually felt someone trying to get into the bag. They didn't succeed! Then she went to London where she was pickpocketed a year ago. Again, they didn't get anything. The bag was smaller then we thought it would be but it held enough and it had lots of hidden compartments perfect for credit cards and cash as well as a camera, phone, ipod, a book and an umbrella. It is attractive and it really was safe!!

2Main compartment zipper broke during routine use  Mar 22, 2011
By run2sea
We just returned from a 2 week European trip, which was our second trip using this bag. In general, this bag provided us with some additional peace of mind for our essential documents and valuables, but we still took care to carry the bag in the front in crowded areas like metros as I imagine that skilled and determined thieves might be able to unclip the zippers.

The bag has a main compartment (capable of holding an ipad, compact camera, phone, and a couple of light sweaters) that is closed by small double zippers that can be secured with a small metal clip. Inside this main compartment is a small, flat, zippered inner pocket located within the main compartment where we often kept essential documents. There is also a small zippered rear compartment that was useful for carrying pens, hand sanitizer, tissues, etc. The two side pockets are well-sized to carry a 500mL water bottle or a compact umbrella each.

Unfortunately, one of the small, flimsy-appearing main compartment zippers came untracked during routine use on this trip, leaving us unable to completely zip closed the main compartment flap if we wanted to use the security clip. The failure of this zipper, as described in another review, is the primary reason for my poor review.

The main compartment itself was slightly on the small side for our needs and we will look for something a little larger as a replacement. I've been generally happy with other PacSafe products (I also own the Camsafe 100 [much more robust zippers] and the Walletsafe 100) and hope that the zipper design can be improved for future versions of this product.

4Love the straps!  Jun 28, 2010
By Kananaka
This bag has the best straps. I've had so many backpacks and couple of them had the gel stuff in the straps which worked to help make them comfortable on your shoulders. But these straps are really comfortable. There is alot of space in both pockets and on both sides of the bag. The security features are fantastic but it also makes it hard to get in and out of the bag easily. It's hard to zipper up quickly or with one-hand while on your shoulder. I would definitely use this backpack for travel but not as an everyday bag.
